Nov. 4, 2008 would have been a day that the late Dr. King would have certainly had in mind when he spoke of his dream.
As a Christian, I voted what I believe God's direction, my conscience, my research, and my gut feelings led me to vote. My vote was not for Senator Obama. However, the votes are in, the people of the nation in which I live have spoken. Senator Barack Obama is the President Elect and on January 20th, 2009, he will be sworn in as the 44th President of the greatest nation on Earth. My response to that fact must be Godly and must be American, for I am in Christ, and I live in America. Christ calls me to pray for our leaders and so I shall. But my hope is not in any leader, my hope is in Jesus Christ. For I shall 'render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars, and unto God the things that are God's". I am His and He is mine, I can do no less.
As President Elect Obama will become the Commander In Chief of our armed forces and of my son, then he will have my blessing and my prayers, for he is my President.
I agree with Rod - I feel as he does about the entire election. Obama was not my choice and neither was McCain but yet - Obama won and he is now in my prayers and I pray for his direction and leadership is one that the Lord will use to His glory.
As an african american, it is nice to see that America voted in an african american, but yet he has a job to do and I pray that people understand that he has a long task ahead and he is not perfect. I think too many people looked at him as some kind of savior and this is not what he is - he is just a man blessed to win the election and now all of us that are Christians need to pray for this man's safety and decisions that he has to make. We know that God is still on the throne and we are to show the love of Jesus in all that we do.

I agree with what Rod said.
This morning I prayed for President-elect Obama and for our country. I was disappointed in the outcome of the election, but I am encouraged that these things are still true:
1. God is sovereign and still on His throne.
2. The local church is the hope of the world.
I find that there are a large number of my GLCC peers that are quite upset with the outcome and have made empty threats to move to canada. I don't resonate with that at all. I couldn't fully side with one candidate over another, I felt they both would've done a good job. I may not agree with Obama with his stance on abortion but regardless of that, he is now my president and I believe that he received that position for a purpose. My duty as a Christian is to pray for him and ask that God leads him. My duty as an American is to stand behind him and support him. But my duty as a man is to make the best of the situation and show others that negativity and cynicism in this endeavor will produce no fruit but rather tear the roots of unity. I believe Obama when he spoke that we are not merely a collection of individuals we are the united states of america and we will rise together and we will fall together. I just hope that people will remember that and start lifting each other up instead of tearing each other down.
