The prayer request was written anonymously, so I don't know who to call to ask for more information. So I Googled the names. It turns out that Gordon Gladden and Ethel Thomas have been on prayer lists all over the East Coast, Indiana, and points in between.
There are Methodists, Catholics, Church of Christ folks, and even Conservative Jews at Temple Beth Shalom in New York praying for these two.
Who are they? What is their need? I have no idea. But God does, so I'll pray for them all the same.
Our church received the same request from the same person on the same paper, although the writing isn't quite as clear. Like yourself, I sent out a request for prayer telling members that God knew their need. So the request is now west of the Mississippi River now. I wonder how far it has gone? It is someone who must seriously believe in the power of prayer!

Just got mine today. We are in Park Rapids, MN. They used an address we haven't used for 15+ years, so they must have an old list of Baptist churches.
ReplyDeleteI was reading a spiritual book on the NJ Light Rail train this evening. An elder gentleman wrote on a piece of paper, reached over the person between us and handed it to me. At first I thought it was the name of a book, & that the names on the paper were the authors. When I got home I realized he wanted me to pray for these people (Ethel Thomas and Gordon C Gladden). I will pray for them. If anyone has any further insight, please post.
ReplyDeleteIt is now Jan 21 2012, and we received a request for these 2. We are in Shelburne, Nova Scotia. I see a lot of churches praying for Gordon and Ethel but have not idea as to who they are or what the issue is. This prayer request has been circulating at least since 2004.

They must be working north - Presbyterian Church of St. David ... they used strange addresses for us and obviously don't know our area. Both our letters mailed March 3 ... the zip code is blurred but looks like "D.V. Daniels NJ 070..."

I am a church secretary in St. Charles, Missouri. We just received this request--almost illegible handwriting and no return address on the envelope.
ReplyDeleteIt is 09-12-2013. We just received this same request, written the same way. We are in Platte City, MO. The postmark was DV Daniels NJ 070 on July 11 2013. The church name was wrong and there was no street address but the postmaster must have decided it was close enough. We will pray for these two as well. God knows the need.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. Just received the same request May 20 2014 in Paradise, NL, Canada.
ReplyDeleteWe got same letter in Arcadis, NE
ReplyDeleteWe just received the same note yesterday 2/23/2016 in Johnson Creek, WI. Same postmark from Newark, NJ with no return address and no more details. Our address was correct.
